Digital Illustration Course FAQ

Is the Digital Illustration course for me?

If you want to learn how to draw digitally using Illustrator and feel like it would be something you could use a lot in future, then you should think about signing up. If you think you would just love it, then definitely sign up!

How difficult is it?

This will be an intensive, hands-on, learning experience but the exercises are broken down into small steps and there will be lots of time to practise techniques along the way. I don’t presume that you know anything about Illustrator beforehand so I go into great detail about the basics from the start. The classes take the form of a workshop so you will be encouraged to participate and ask questions. The class sizes are kept small (maximum of 6 people) to ensure that everyone will recieve the attention they need. I have a lot of patience and it’s a relaxed atmosphere. You can do it!

How many hours are involved?

There will be 2 consecutive days with 5.5 hours class time in total, plus breaks. You will need to be in attendance from 10am until 5pm.

Where does the course take place?

The Digital Illustration course takes place in Visual Artists Ireland, Windmill View House, 4 Oliver Bond St, Merchants Quay, Dublin 8.

I don’t live in Dublin, do you have any other courses around the country?

At the moment I am only delivering the course in Dublin but if you have a group of 6 or more people I am happy to travel to your office to deliver the course. Please get in touch for further details.

I haven’t any Adobe experience, can I still take the course?

This course starts from the absolute basics of the programs so you won’t be expected to know anything about Illustrator. However you will be expected to be somewhat familiar with your laptop and be able to do things such as opening and saving files, renaming files, and how to find a saved file on your computer.

Can you help me with my software?

I am not available to set up your computer with the software for you but you can download a free trial of the Illustrator software at Adobe.com. You will need to sign up for an Adobe account and then it will give you a step by step guide on how to install it. If you need further assistance please pop into your local computer shop.

Can I still get CPD points for this course?

I can issue with a certificate of attendance that you can give to your CPD points awarding body.

Why do you want me to bring a mouse, can’t I just use my trackpad?

Because of the detailed nature of the drawing techniques it will be much easier for you to use a mouse and will save a lot of frustration during class time. Please take my word for it and bring a mouse with you.:)

Do you like apples?

Why yes!
